Frame Wonderland X OPSM

Latest and greatest have hit our store, especially in Miu Miu & Prada. Miuccia Prada has been a very, very busy woman! I can only describe the following as a fashion story full of wonder.

My favourite out of the newest pieces include the new Miu Miu Noir specs. You may remember seeing this earlier this year but in sunglass form, but now you can have it as your very own statement in single vision or progressive lenses!

Continuing with the creative flow, come the rimless version of the above. I’ve never seen such an understated pair of specs that still show some personality!

And last but not least from Miu Miu, come the elegant metal framed. Sophisticated & lightweight, a delicate half rim cat-eye & the much anticipated star shape!

Here is just a preview of the wonders from Prada. Baroque, round, 70’s white cat eye…

These won’t be available just anywhere. So make sure you get in quick, before all this wonder disappears!

Prada X 2012/2013 F/W

Prada continues into 2012/2013 Fall/Winter with swinging 60’s & retro 70’s groove for the ladies. The campaign features bright and bold diamond retro prints that you may remember seeing your parents wear in photos in the 60’s, but then also featuring detail such as large embellished jewels that creeped their way into clothing in the 70’s.

The shoes are to absolutely die for! With a mix of masculinity & femininity, the same can be said for the cropped pants that appear in the photoshoot.

… But it’s the eyewear that really grab your attention. Ranging from timeless to an artistic piece of sunglass art !

The mens collection seems to take a bit of a wander in the opposite direction, almost like a step back in time from 70’s - 20’s… still a wonder to behold. I’m loving Actor Willem Dafoe in the shots!

Just in: Versace X OPSM

This week I’ve had the great pleasure of unpacking some amazing new Versace optical frames.

The latest 2012/2013 Fall/Winter campaign features bold and elegant frames styled in a dark, gothic inspired apparel and accessories range. As a punk rock child of the 90’s - I have been completely in love with the latest campaign imagery, created by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

The black and white photoshoot, highlights a fierce and alternative look with mesh, chokers, knee high leather - very grunge/goth inspired indeed but still complete with the Versace icon such as the Medusa head.

I’m particularly impressed by the selection of styles that have come into the range. The creative cat-like 50’s shapes have the ability to express a part of yourself and would make an excellent statement piece of any outfit, whether formal or casual. Here are a couple of specs I am absolutely loving at the moment:

This translucent and black acetate frame has the temple detail from the January Jones capsule collection from 2011, however are part of the fierce 2012/2013 F/W trend. An excellent shape for rounded face shapes, as the square bottom edge of the frame gives the cat-eye a more softer look. I would recommend for single vision & Panorama Imperium or Altitude progressive lenses.

The next frame, again, perfect for most face shapes; especially rounded shapes. Even though this is a full acetate frame, the clear bottom edge gives a less noticeable look. So if you are not quite comfortable with the obviousness of a frame, this one is for you! Let the shape still show personality, without going over the top!

These styles are now available at my base: OPSM George St, Sydney City.

Ray-Ban Re-invented

True icons never die. They create, inspire many and set themselves away from the every day norm.

To celebrate Ray-Ban’s 75th anniversary, the iconic Ray-Ban Aviator has been re-invented into a neat and stylish folding version, that’s right, a folding aviator easy to carry on the go so you never have an excuse to not keep your groove… as The Kinks say, all day and all of the night!

What can the US Airforce tell us about style? Originally developed for pilots, the Ray-Ban aviator was a complete first of it’s kind. Light weight eye protection with dark, sometimes mirrored lenses. The original design featured tempered glass lenses dubbed “G-15” as they were green in colour and blocked 80% of visible light. A year after their creation, they were released to the public after US General Douglas MacArthur landed on the beach in the Philippines in World War II and was photographed wearing the Ray-Ban Aviators.

They grew in fashion popularity in the Swinging Sixties and have since been worn by musicians and actors; only inspiring more style and leading the pack of “Icons” released by Ray-Ban. Function and fashion? Yes please!

The folding Aviator is definitely going to be snapped up everywhere by Ray-Ban lovers. This edition featuring crystal lenses, polarised versions, full and gradient lenses. Exclusive to Sunglass Hut. Pop into the Flagship Sydney Centrepoint store. This style is also prescription friendly for all my myopic fans!

Prada Timeless Chic X OPSM

The best part of helping clients create their prescription sunglasses is basically choosing lens colours. The latest look we love at OPSM are these 50’s American inspired (just as the rest of their S/S 2012 clothing and accessories collection) timeless cat-eye sunglasses by Prada.

The lenses in these chic frames have been released with a gradient tint. Our client opted to have a full black tint, taking the look bolder than before. Very happy… and secretly jealous at the same time!

Steve McQueen Limited Edition Persol X OPSM

I recently had the pleasure of making a completely customised (with prescription) pair of the limited edition Steve McQueen folding Persols. My aim was to get it as close to the original glass & slightly mirrored tint look, so I made a polycarbonate (durability and lightness), grey polarised lens with a mirror finish. Right eye: +0.00/-1.25 x 71. Left eye: +0.00/-1.50 x 95.

It it totally possible to keep your groove, whilst having sharp vision corrected with prescription lenses in your favourite sunglasses. Actually, about 80% of our sunglass range in my OPSM is prescription ready - so rejoice to all spectacle and contact lens wearing suntastic fashionistas!
